Walmart is launching The Sustainability Index, providing tools to help improve the sustainability of the products sold. Walmart are continually broadening and accelerating their sustainability efforts driven by the interest of customers, shareholders, business and the planet. The Sustainability Index provides us a vehicle for advancing sustainability further by integrating it into Walmart’s core business of merchandising.
The Sustainability Index builds on the work Walmart began in 2009 with 15-question Sustainability Supplier Assessment by providing a higher level of specificity through category assessments designed to leverage improvement opportunities unique to particular product categories. These science-based assessments were developed by a global multi-stakeholder collaboration led by The Sustainability Consortium.
