Edge advising sustainability on iconic infrastructure projects

Edge Environment staff have applied their combined sustainability skills to become a leading force in infrastructure sustainability. In the last 12 months, Edge have been engaged as sustainability advisors to assist in winning combined infrastructure projects worth over $8 billion. Edge applied its depth in sustainability for the successful Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) consortium bid for the Northwest Rail Link Operations, Trains and Systems (OTS) Package. We applied our core skills in life cycle assessment, energy and carbon management, sustainable procurement and climate change risk assessment to develop a bid winning sustainability strategy that met the needs of both our client and the end client in Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW). Edge have worked closely with TfNW over the last 3 years working on a number of strategic projects which include: developing a whole of life toolset; developed the Strategic Sustainability KPI Framework; developed the Sustainable Procurement standard and also undertook a life cycle costing study against LEDs. Edge also have an ongoing working relationship with ISCA and contributed to the technical development of the ISCA IS tool.

Using the experience gained from this bid, Edge staff moved onto providing sustainability advisory services to the (again) successful Lend Lease bid for the NorthConnex project. Shortly after this submission, Edge joined the Connecting Sydney consortium to provide sustainability advisory services for their Sydney Light Rail bid. Using the experience gained on the bids for NRT and Lend Lease, Edge were able to deliver a sustainability response more efficiently and effectively…..and yes, we were (again) part of the team that won the bid.

The last year has seen an unprecedented rise in infrastructure in NSW and we at Edge feel that we are riding this wave. We have an Edge team working with NRT to help make Northwest Rail Link a more sustainable transport system through design, life cycle assessment, sustainable procurement and strategic thinking. We look forwards to continuing our relationship with Connecting Sydney and applying our skills and experience to build a more sustainable Sydney Light Rail. Through the last year we have built some great relationships and more importantly made some good friends whilst we catalyse change through scientific integrity for infrastructure in NSW.
