Announcing Edge Environment’s new sister: Edge Ambiental

Edge Environment is proud to announce that it is has a new sister, Edge Ambiental. Edge Ambiental was set up in July of this year to meet the needs of the emerging sustainability market in Brazil. Led by Jonas Bengtsson the new sister company has already taken off, working with University of São Paulo, Brazil Department of Environment and Interamerican Bank.

Brazil’s economy is the largest of the Latin American nations and the second largest in the western hemisphere. Brazil is also one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world with an average annual GDP growth rate of over 5 percent. In future decades, Brazil is expected to become one of the five largest economies in the world. For these reasons it is no longer referred to as a developing country, but as an emerging country, a newly industrialised country and as a member of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) economies.

Brazil’s rapid economic growth has been accompanied by rising greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental degradation, which is at odds with Brazil’s sustainable development agenda. Brazil ranks as the world’s fourth largest greenhouse gas emitter, 35% by 2030; Edge Ambiental sees this as an opportunity to contribute to the sustainability planning of this emerging market.

The foundation of Edge Ambiental is a natural step for Edge Environment having worked in the South American market for the last 5 years. Edge have partnered with likes of Fundación Chile and supermarket giant Walmart amongst others in South America and appreciate the significance of South America as an emerging market.

The team at Edge is very excited at the prospect of making positive contributions across the world.
