In June 2014, Edge Environment employed Lucia Fernandez as a paid Waste Intern to conduct research on the waste diversion opportunities in the Northern Beaches. The research was designed to support Edge Environment’s work in increasing recycling rates in the Northern Beaches and producing better environmental outcomes through resource recovery.
Lucia was selected as the waste intern due to her background in waste management in Spain and her objective to acquire work experience and ultimately full time employment in this sector in Sydney.
The Waste Internship Research Report identifies the current state of play with waste and recycling in the Northern Beaches and identifies a number of opportunities and barriers to increasing recycling rates.
