We usually think of sustainability in the context of our impact on our surrounding environment. However, sustainability is not only about finding ways to reduce our ecological footprint. Sustainability is also about sustaining one self to achieve personal and professional success. Just as we need to find tools to achieve environmental sustainability to not deplete our resources on the long term, we also need to learn the skills to prevent “self depletion” in order to sustain ourselves in the present for a sustainable and successful future.
At Edge, we have created an inspiring workplace, with views over Sydney harbour, lots of natural light and ergonomic furniture. We have invested in recycled or reused materials (carpet and furniture) and low impact products. We rezoned our lighting to minimise use of electricity. We purchase 100% wind powered electricity. Our office is a minute away from Manly wharf with direct access to public transport. Bikes and surf boards are parked to the right and left of the entrance respectively.
We consider ourselves incredibly grateful to be working in such an amazing environment as Manly Beach where we can easily make the most of our lunch break to go for a swim at the beautiful nearby Shelly Beach or go for a surf only a few meters away from the office. Edge Environment promotes this sustainable lifestyle to prevent employee burnouts. Edge Environment is like a boat, its sails and the wind generate power and energize its crew creating employee cohesion, motivation and inspiration while the rubber blade indicates a direction and common goal moving forward. The recent Edge Strategy Day Thursday November 14th illustrates this pursuit of professional and personal sustainability. The sailing afternoon in Sydney Harbour ignited spark among the Edge crew as everyone contributed their divergent personalities to accomplish a common goal.
