We’d like to wish a warm welcome to Edge Environment’s newest team member, Ben Hale.

I join Edge as Sustainability Consultant, working across the Infrastructure and Property streams, having worked across several engineering disciplines including water distribution and monitoring, rail networks, and transport planning.

I’ve previously worked on projects designing water monitoring programs for potable and waste water, providing analysis and sustainability input to some of Sydney’s more recent transport plans, and embedding sustainable design principles into the design and construction of rail signals and signalling networks.

Environmental impacts due to resource use and emissions from construction are amongst the highest globally. As society and development progress, particularly in our built environments, I see an opportunity working with Edge to introduce engineers and designers to methods to embed environmentally-friendly practices into their systems and involve more people in sustainability.

Having grown up surrounded by the natural beauty of Ireland’s South West coast, I have seen and studied first hand the interplay between the myriad facets of eco-systems and the ways that our activities can affect these balances. Having developed a passion for the natural world and having seen it in such a pristine condition, becoming involved in the sustainability and environmental sectors was always an inevitability. Add to that an aptitude for design and engineering and Environmental and Sustainability Engineering drops neatly out of the equation.

I came across some of Edge’s people on previous projects and workshops and was continually impressed by the passion and determination I saw in their approach and in their conversation. I am delighted to join Edge and look forward to adding my perspectives and passion to a team already excelling in the Sustainability sector.
