We\u2019d like to wish a warm welcome to Edge Environment\u2019s newest team member,\u00a0Charlotte Wang. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I join Edge as an\u00a0\"\"environmental engineer with a strong background in resource and impact modelling, commercial projects and strategy development in the sustainability space. At Edge, my role as a Sustainability Consultant will sit within Edge\u2019s suite of sustainability services for the infrastructure and property sectors.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining Edge, I worked as a waste and resource recovery consultant, leading and delivering projects in waste strategy, education, tender preparation, and modelling. Highlights include: modelling waste feedstock for the proposed energy from waste (EfW) facility at Eastern Creek, waste infrastructure feasibility study for the Bondi Pavilion Upgrade and Conservation Project, and tender preparation and management, including a whole of life costing and detailed scheme design, for the deployment of the NSW Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) in the Northern Rivers region.<\/p>\n

I have also held roles as a sustainability engineer at Laing O\u2019Rourke\u2019s Engineering Excellence Group, research assistant at the Research Centre for Integrated Transport Innovation (rCITI), various guest lecture, educational developer and workshop demonstrator positions at UNSW and settlement support worker under the Federal Government\u2019s settlement program for newly arrived refugees and migrants.<\/p>\n

In 2014 I founded the social enterprise, eReuse, with a group of friends to try to improve waste management outcomes for electronic waste, particularly personal computers and peripherals. We built the organisation and operations from scratch and embedded it as a program within UNSW Australia. Today, the eReuse program at UNSW refurbishes and redistributes hundreds of computers each semester. The computers are sourced from UNSW faculties and departments, or donated by businesses, staff and students, and are redistributed to individuals or groups facing social or economic disadvantage. My experience with eReuse led me to a career in sustainability. It also shaped my understanding of and attitude toward \u2018sustainability\u2019 as a concept, issue, and imperative. Together with my other roles, I\u2019ve come to appreciate the social and institutional factors, and competing commercial drivers, that affect the implementation of sustainability innovation across our society and economy.<\/p>\n

For me, \u2018sustainability\u2019 is not just a profession or sector. As an engineer by nature and training, I\u2019m moved to identify, define and solve practical problems. I enjoy exploring both the nature of our sustainability challenges (mass consumption, large scale environmental degradation and forced migration, to name a few) and the types of solutions and methods that have been suggested to address them.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m excited to be given a fantastic platform to engage with these issues at Edge. I consider Edge a leader in sustainability in Australia, and I\u2019m looking forward to working with interesting people, with a diverse range of professional backgrounds, toward this common goal and interest<\/p>\n
