\"\"<\/a>Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG13), Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro undertook to develop goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on science, with the aim of preventing the temperature of the planet rise above 2 \u00b0 C.<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

On Earth Day<\/a>, Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro<\/a> seals a new commitment with the “Science Based Targets<\/a>” initiative, which makes it the first Chilean company to take this important step. Thus, Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro becomes part of a group of leading international companies that recognize the global need to protect the environment and ensure an easy and prosperous transition to a low carbon economy.<\/p>\n

The “Science Based Targets” initiative is a collaboration of the Carbon Disclosure Project<\/a> (CDP), World Resources Institute<\/a> (WRI), World Wide Fund for Nature<\/a> (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact<\/a> (UNGC), which seeks to support companies to define the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions according to the Paris Agreement<\/a> to limit global warming below 2\u00b0 C. On a global scale, there are approximately 380 companies involved, of which only 100 leading corporations already have defined their reduction goals.<\/p>\n

With Edge Chile\u2019s advisory, SBT\u00b4s approval for the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro is expected during the first semester of 2018.<\/p>\n

“We are aware that climate change is a new challenge for the wine sector, so we want to commit ourselves and make a contribution to reduce emissions, not only in our operations but also to motivate our value chain in this endevour”, says Eduardo Guilisasti, General Manager of Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro.<\/p>\n

Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro is the only winery in the world listed in Top # 10 of the “Beverage” category in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and also has being measuring its carbon footprint for more than a decade, having achieved emission reductions of around 30% throughout the life cycle of their products.<\/p>\n
