Edge Environment participated in the UNEP’s Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative<\/a> (UNEP-SBCI) Symposium on Resource Efficiency and Green Economy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Symposium precedes the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). The event provided an important platform for experts and policy makers at the local, national and international levels to present and discuss the significant opportunities for advancing sustainable development through the building sector. The symposium attracted representatives from government ministries, NGOs, research institutions, professional associations, and individuals involved in the building and construction from both the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the symposium was undoubtedly, judged by the standing ovation, the inspiring and firm closing remarks and call for action and implementation over even more words and perfect plans by Ambassador Rubens Ricupero (former Minister of the Environment and Amazonian Affairs & Minister of Finance, Brazil). For Rio+20 and the sustainable cities movement “set targets, set timelines and take action”.<\/p>\n

Another key highlight was the policy-making panel discussing the role of cities in promoting sustainable buildings and achieving overall sustainable development objectives.<\/p>\n
