The output from this workshop will form the foundation of the next stage of the Tools development.<\/p>\n<p>The Group was comprised of members from key research institutions, insurance industry and consultants. People were chosen for their knowledge and experience in the built environments resilience to extreme weather events and came from around Australia to participate in the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion centred around the technical detail of the BRRT. Key questions included data sources and the complexity of the algorithm that will calculate the rating. The input from the Expert Advisory Group is now being collated in to a Functional Specification for the BRRT and will be circulated to the group as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>_______<\/p>\n<p>The first pilot of the BRRT was finished in early 2012. The BRRT uses ratings of individual building materials and information on a building\u2019s exposure to weather hazards to provide an overall resilience rating unique to the building\u2019s geographic location. The BRRT is being developed one hazard at a time \u2013 the first pilot addressed inundation and storm will be incorporated in the current development phase. The first prototype set the architecture of the tool and is designed to provide platform for incorporating new data as it becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>The BRRT represents leadership in the area of resilience and aims to fill a gap in the availability of robust and reliable information.
