\"ISCAv2\"Environmental Product Declarations\u00a0\u2013 verified documents that convey transparent and comparable information about a product’s environmental impact \u2013 will now gain credits\u00a0in rating tools for infrastructure (IS)\u00a0as well as for buildings (Green Star), opening up a new perspective in supply chain management.<\/em><\/p>\n

We recently wrote about the uptake of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD\u00ae) in Australia<\/a>, driven by the\u00a0Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Green Star Rating Tools. We are pleased to announce that\u00a0EPDs are now also recognised in the latest release of the Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating scheme from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

EPDs have the dual benefit of driving improvements in our manufacturing processes and enabling our infrastructure clients to claim Green Star and ISCA credits for using Vinidex products.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A recent\u00a0Australasian EPD Programme press release\u00a0notes that\"Vinidex <\/span>\u00a0“an important distinction between Green Star and the IS Rating Tool is that the latter requires EPDs\u00a0to\u00a0verify a project\u00a0as\u00a0compliant with both\u00a0ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards”.\u00a0By requiring EN 15804 compliance, the IS tool goes further to supporting EPDs that are standardised, third-party verified and consistent with international\u00a0best practice. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All construction product EPDs registered with the Australasian EPD\u00ae Programme<\/a> are EN 15804 compliant, because the programme is aligned with the International EPD\u00ae System<\/a>, which has adopted EN 15804 for all construction products.\u00a0With the first EPD registration only last year,\u00a0the Australasian EPD Programme has already registered 19 EPDs, contributing to over 500 EPDs registered through the\u00a0International EPD\u00ae System. Among the first movers under the Australasian EPD Programme were Iplex and Vinidex,\u00a0in collaboration with the Plastic Industry Pipe Association (PIPA). Iplex and Vinidex have recently\u00a0launched EPDs for\u00a0a whole range of plastic pipe products. For an example see the Vinidex\u00a0StormPRO\u00ae and SewerPRO\u00ae Polypropylene Pipes EPD<\/a>\u00a0(pictured above). Speaking on the motivations for producing EPDs, Vinidex says\u00a0“the EPDs have the dual benefit of driving improvements in our manufacturing processes and enabling our infrastructure clients to claim Green Star and ISCA credits for using Vinidex products”.<\/span><\/p>\n
