Edge Environment\u2019s third industrial ecology workshop held in November 2014 resulted in a number of potential waste diversion projects, several of which have progressed in first months of 2015.<\/p>\n

Having uncovered stockpiles of up to 500t of contaminated plastics previously used by Graincorp in silage and grain handling, Edge has been working with Plastic Forests to explore the recycling potential of these materials.<\/p>\n

The materials are suitable for recycling and in the spirit of the circular economy, the possibility of on-selling the recycled material back to the original manufacturer for use in new agricultural products is being explored.<\/p>\n

Working with KFC, the recovery of soft plastics from the flagship Lidcome store is also penned for commencement in conjunction with Plastic Forests and Miltek Bailers with further plans under development to expand waste services at the Lidcome store to include organics collection and recycling.<\/p>\n

It is hoped that these initiatives will demonstrate the economic benefit and viability of increasing recycling in local stores, while also providing a great example of the way in which large industrial manufacturers can reutilise their own spent product.<\/p>\n
