On Clean Up for Business Day last Tuesday 24th of Feb 2015, the Edge Environment team got together to collect 1600 bottle caps lodged in the grass at the East Esplanade Reserve at Manly Cove.
A popular spot for a picnic and an evening drink, the lawn in this space is increasingly littered with bottle caps which bury themselves in the grass.
Despite being able to be recycled in nearby bins, littering bottle caps increases the demand for virgin steel production which has a significant impact on the environment, requiring large amounts of energy and water consumption.
Through media coverage in the Daily Telegraph, there was a tremendous response from residents with young children who are apparently quite fond of eating the bottle caps they find.
Edge Environment values the opportunity of participate in local environmental programs and generate interest in the environment and sustainability within the community. Looking forward to being involved next year!
