Starting up the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society in NSW

The Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS) is Australia’s peak professional organisation for people involved in the use and development of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). A not-for-profit organisation, ALCAS has individual and corporate members from industry, government, academia and service organisations. In an act to increase the society’s engagement at a regional level, the ALCAS Committee of Management put a call out to ALCAS members to establish state chapters across Australia.

Edge Environment’s Ben Kneppers has taken the role of Chapter Coordinator to help the first ever official ALCAS Chapter get up and running in New South Wales. The chapter intends to promote and support the practice of LCA as a central method for environmental assessment and decision-making in New South Wales. The chapter will be running events every second month on LCA-related topics such as ecolabels, environmental claims, allocation, and weightings. The first event of the year is set to be held at Edge Environment’s offices in Manly on Thursday February 16th on the topic of Walmart and The Sustainability Consortium.
