Congratulations Kingspan Insulated Panels for leading the way in the era of informed sustainable design, increased transparency and life cycle thinking. Now architects, designers, building surveyors and other professionals seeking to maximise environmental assessment and sustainable design can access the the full suite of Kingspan Insulated Panels Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), published through the Australasian EPD Programme.
These new publications comply with the requirements for manufacturer specific EPDs under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star rating system in that they:
- Conform with ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
- Have been verified by an independent third party.
- Have at least a cradle-to-gate scope.
The publications are based on cradle to grave Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and can also help project teams to conduct a Green Star compliant, whole-of-building, whole-of-life LCA to obtain additional points under the Materials category of the current Design & As Built and Interiors rating tools as well as under the Innovation Challenge category of the legacy Green Star rating tools.
Kingspan see the development of EPDs as a natural progression in our sustainability journey. The EPDs provide, both for us and the users of our products, more detail on the environment impact that our products have on the built environment. Specifically for us it identifies the areas of highest impact in many of our key processes which are embraced in the cradle-to-grave concept. We seek to further optimise the manufacturing, raw materials and supplier selection processes, and use the EPD data to review product design and installation procedures. – Dr Mark Tatam, Technical Manager, Kingspan Insulated Panels
