There is an increasing focus on ensuring that governance mechanisms within an organisation are sufficient to support decision making that accounts for climate change as a material risk. Working with Climate Planning, climate change governance assessments were undertaken with Alexandrina Council, City of Mitcham, Kangaroo Island Council and Victor Harbor City Council. These analyses identified areas for improvement in corporate governance, especially in relation to disclosure, public risk registers, strategies and asset management plans. Drawing on the success of the first phase of this work, an additional four Councils are about to commence another round of governance assessment.
