Edge Environment was engaged by Ndevr Environmental to prepare a commercialisation-stage Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the MSM Milling Biomass Fuel Switch project. The LCA was aligned with the guidance for commercialisation LCAs from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), Method and guidance for undertaking life cycle assessment (LCA) of bioenergy products and projects, as well as the ISO standards for LCA: ISO 14040:2006 and ISO14044:2006+A1:2018.
The Biomass Fuel Switch Project, partly funded by ARENA, involves the replacement of MSM Milling’s existing LPG-fuelled boilers at their canola processing facility in Manildra, NSW with one 5 MW biomass boiler fuelled by wood residues from nearby forestry and sawmilling operations. The LCA study has been peer reviewed per the requirements of the ARENA guidelines. It is submitted as part of MSM Milling’s ARENA funding requirements for the commercialisation stage.
