IGA: Business Food Waste Avoidance

Partnering with Metcash on the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Your Business is Food (YBIF)/Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) Grant, Edge engaged 25 IGA stores across Sydney Metro and Mid-North Coast. The program was design to:

• Train stores on how to measure baseline food waste generation,
• Develop and implement an action plan to improve food waste avoidance opportunities, and
• Track and measure food waste avoidance improvements.

Edge designed and implemented a bespoke toolkit and Excel tool that allowed stores track, record and efficient analysis food waste over the course of 14 days.

The learnings from this program informed stage 2 of the YBIF/LFHW program, where Edge refined the process to extend engagement in the program to 75 IGA stores in NSW in 2020.
