Edge worked with Harris Farm Markets to produce a guide for product buyers around sustainable packaging procurement. The guide was based on research into the embodied impacts of packaging, local availability of resource recovery infrastructure and the relationship between packaging design and food waste. Key outputs included a decision-making tool to help buyers choose the most sustainable packaging based on the specific characteristics of the product.
In parallel, the project also delivered an organisation-wide environmental footprint assessment, designed to identify social and environmental hotspots in the company’s supply chain. The analysis identified a number of areas in which Harris Farm could focus future sustainability initiatives, including categories to prioritise as part of its response to the Modern Slavery Act.
