Consumers increasingly expect their food to be produced sustainably, but the way that sustainability is interpreted and applied in fresh food production can vary significantly. The PMA ANZ (Produce Marketing Association Australia-New Zealand) engaged Edge to undertake a scan for the fresh produce sector to provide insights into key drivers for sustainability, sustainability frameworks, sustainability best practices and identifiers of good practice.
The scan assessed 110 companies primarily from Australia and New Zealand and identified common elements of leading sustainability practice and opportunities for the industry to improve how it communicates and implements sustainability activities. The project results are being used by the PMA-ANZ to inform how it continues to work with industry to increase adoption of sustainability practices.
