Events & Exhibitions Association of Australia is the peak body for the events sector. In response to increased scrutiny from the public and associated demand from their members, EEAA went out to competitive tender to find a consultant to assist them in the development of a detailed roadmap to address the environmental sustainability of the events sector. Edge was successful, and worked with various sector representatives over a 12 month period. Our approach included defining the key ‘impact hotspots’ through a combination of visual audits, carbon footprinting, and interviews. This process identified a high level of interdependence between stakeholder groups, which required a collective sector-wide movement.
In response Edge developed a Memorandum of Commitment which outlined key sector targets out to 2021 and 2025, supported by a bespoke event carbon footprint calculator and sustainability tender documents to help sector stakeholders implement the required changes. This was supported by a series of co-design workshop to confirm and embed these actions.
