Department for Transport and Infrastructure in South Australia invited the Edge team to review and report on cool road technologies. As roads occupy 10-15% of the land surface area in most cities, they are becoming an increased area of focus for cooling activities. This includes cooling through the use of cool road sealants.
This project conducted the most comprehensive review of cool road technologies ever undertaken in Australia. The report identified a range of technologies, with a focus on cool road sealants, and explored issues including impact on temperature, durability, business case and potential disadvantages. The report presents a path forward for continuing to evolve and adapt cool road technologies as part of government initiatives to create cooler cities.
