The Insurance Council of Australia identified the lack of resilience in residential properties as a concern for Australian communities and a key contributor to insured loss. Edge Environment was commissioned to develop a Building Resilience Rating Tool (BRRT) that measures the resilience of residential properties to extreme weather events. See our short film here.
The BRRT uses information regarding the location, materials, structure and design of the building to provide a resilience rating that is unique to a buildings geographic location. The project involves extensive stakeholder engagement and synthesis of a wide variety of information sources to a common methodology for rating resilience. The BRRT initiative has helped to raise the awareness of resilience issues in the built environment and is providing a platform for engagement and alignment.
