Mitchell Noga
Sustainability Consultant
Australia
I have primarily worked in Sustainability Assessment, Carbon and Energy Management, Feasibility and Sustainability Strategy. This work has been in a diverse range of sectors including the built environment, local government and the energy industry.
My favourite projects are those where I work in collaboration with people who bring alternative perspectives for sensemaking the problem space and provide creative problem-solving solutions. Some that come to mind are:
· My role as a researcher and strategist for the continued improvement of sustainability outcomes for Sydney’s iconic Martin Place and associated buildings. This required constant assessment and analysis of data and strategy options and has delivered continued improvements in the operational energy and water consumption on site.
· As the sustainability operations lead for the proposed renewable energy and hydrogen hub in rural Western Australia. This incorporated integrated operations and digital transformation technology to support community resilience and energy decarbonisation. This has helped guide the policy framework and industry standards for the hydrogen industry in Australia.
· Helping the development of Western Australia’s most successful Kickstarter campaign which pioneered plastics waste recycling in Australia. This start-up incorporated circular economy principles, technology driven upcycling and community engagement and education to divert HDPE and PET from oceans and landfill and producing 3D printer filament.
I completed BSc in Sustainability Science at Murdoch University in Western Australia in 2015 and I am currently completing my Master of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, again at Murdoch University.
I work in sustainability because early in my education I found that development that externalizes costs to society and the environment could not continue, and sustainability provided a lens or mindset that orients in the direction of holistic prosperity.
In my spare time, I enjoy bouldering, yoga and going for a run as well as reading, writing and cooking. I enjoy volunteering and spending time with friends and family.
