As a sustainability consultant working in Australia I have primarily worked in the property space. My work involves helping my clients deliver sustainability strategies or sustainable outcomes for their projects. I am a Green Star Accredited Professional, and previously worked at the Green Building Council of Australia. With this experience, I have developed varying Green Star pathways and assisted with the delivery of Green Star ratings.
My favourite projects are those where I work closely with project teams to achieve their sustainability targets.
Being able to form close relationships over ongoing projects has helped me to understand the inner workings and practicalities of sustainability at the ground level. Some that come to mind are:
– Crows Nest Station Green Star Rating – The Crows Nest Station project is one that I have been lucky enough to work on since I started at Edge Environment. The project team has the goal to achieve a minimum of a 5 Star Green Star rating with additional aspirations to achieve 6 Star. This ongoing project has provided me the opportunity to work very closely with the head contractors to ensure their goals and aspirations are achieved. The project continues to push for sustainable procurement as well as thoroughly immersing themselves in the community to deliver additional social sustainability initiatives.
– ICG Newground Green Loan Framework – ICG was an amazing partner to work with on delivering their initial strategy for their green loan framework in Australia. ICG has a similar framework in the UK that has been very successful for driving sustainable outcomes on building projects. We were able to work with ICG to integrate the Green Star and NABERs rating tools into their new Australian framework. This was an exciting project which really looked at benchmarking the industry and looking at where ICG could have the most impact.
– Vicinity Sustainable Design Framework – This project was a natural fit, with me being able to use my experience in being a part of the development of the new Green Star Buildings rating tool. Working closely with Vicinity was such an enjoyable time and I believe we were able to successfully update their sustainable design framework to reflect the updated standards provided in Green Star Building. We were even able to look at embodied energy targets and where Vicinity can make changes to head towards Net Zero ambitions.
I completed BENG (hons) in Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand before finishing my Masters Sustainable Built Environment from UNSW in 2019.
I work in sustainability because I believe there is a better and smarter way we can deliver our construction projects that can benefit the community and the environment.
In my spare time, I’m an avid netball player, I sew, I travel and I make sure I enjoy the best of the Sydney beaches that are on offer!
