Edge Environment’s monthly ‘Make More Good’ donation sends $300 to a worthy cause nominated by a staff member. In January 2021, Edge’s Sustainability Consultant, Sarah Sannen, chose One Girl to be the recipient.
In 2018 I was in the audience at Purpose. On the stage was one of my long-time heroes, Paul Hawken, speaking about his new project Drawdown. Through this work, his team found that when you combine the two initiatives, educating girls and empowering women, it becomes the number one way to address climate change.
The ripple effects from educating girls are massive and something OneGirl knows well. An educated woman is more than twice as likely to educate her children, less likely to be in a forced marriage and will give an average of 90% of her income to her family helping to end the cycle of poverty.
With a girl in Sierra Leone more likely to be married before the age of 18 than finish high school we still have a long way to go, which is why OneGirl is my chosen charity.
If you want to get involved, you can become a monthly donor as part of the Graduation program, become a business partner or keep an eye out for the fundraising campaign Do It In A Dress – it’s a really fun way of raising awareness and funds for a great cause!
