On Earth Day 2018 – Viña Concha y Toro committed to generate climate action

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG13), Viña Concha y Toro undertook to develop goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on science, with the aim of preventing the temperature of the planet rise above 2 ° C.

On Earth Day, Viña Concha y Toro seals a new commitment with the “Science Based Targets” initiative, which makes it the first Chilean company to take this important step. Thus, Viña Concha y Toro becomes part of a group of leading international companies that recognize the global need to protect the environment and ensure an easy and prosperous transition to a low carbon economy.

The “Science Based Targets” initiative is a collaboration of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), World Resources Institute (WRI), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which seeks to support companies to define the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions according to the Paris Agreement to limit global warming below 2° C. On a global scale, there are approximately 380 companies involved, of which only 100 leading corporations already have defined their reduction goals.

With Edge Chile’s advisory, SBT´s approval for the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Viña Concha y Toro is expected during the first semester of 2018.

“We are aware that climate change is a new challenge for the wine sector, so we want to commit ourselves and make a contribution to reduce emissions, not only in our operations but also to motivate our value chain in this endevour”, says Eduardo Guilisasti, General Manager of Viña Concha y Toro.
