Edge Environment was born in 2008, in the year designated as the International Year of Planet Earth. The IPCC<\/a> had just published its fourth assessment report<\/a>, having concluded that global climate change<\/a> is “very likely” to have a predominantly human cause, and Live Earth Concerts had just been held in 9 major cities around the world to raise environmental awareness. It was the beginning of the Edge journey, and we have come a long way since. Soon after our inception \u2013 the global economy took a dive with the GFC and our early years were about making investments in environment and sustainability stack up in a struggling economy. A decade later the upward trajectory of the environment and sustainability agenda continues, buoyed by rapidly changing economics and a sea-change in attitudes across most business, governments and communities.<\/p>\n

Giving one\u2019s professional life to a cause is extremely fulfilling, and being Chairman of Edge Environment has been an honour and a privilege as we grew a company from an idea and nurtured it with passion to become one of Australia\u2019s most dedicated, innovative and insightful sustainability consultancies. As Edge continues to mature, a clear next step is to appoint an independent chair to lead us through the next decade. Last year we were proud to announce that Mark Rogers had joined our board as a non-executive director and this year we are pleased to announce that Mark has accepted the role of Chairman of Edge Environment taking effect immediately.<\/p>\n

I am very pleased to be working with a group of people who are passionate about the space they work in and demonstrate professional excellence in everything they do. Understanding the life cycle of business actions, investment decisions and human interactions with our environment is at the very heart of what Edge does and it is also at the centre of a sustainable future for our planet. I look forward to working with the Board and staff at Edge to continue to position the company at the forefront of innovative solutions to sustainable business practices. Having worked for what feels like a lifetime in \u2018real assets\u2019, now more than ever is the right time to ensure we are net givers, not net takers from our finite surroundings. I hope to bring a wide range of real asset experiences to Edge and help them get a deeper connection between good business investment and sustainable business practices.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mark has injected a new dimension to our strategy and thinking and we are excited by the new leadership style and best practice governance of an independent Chair.
