Edge Environment<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s monthly <\/em><\/strong>\u2018Make More Good<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u2019 donation sends $300 to a worthy cause nominated by a staff member. In September, Director of Projects Ken Lunty, chose One Girl<\/a>\u00a0to be the recipient.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I feel extremely proud to work for Edge for three reasons:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. First is that our work creates mutually beneficial change for people and the environment;<\/li>\n
  2. The second is that, to achieve the first, we strive to create the best workplace we can.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We hire the best people to do the job regardless of sex, race, background or physical ability. This creates a diverse workplace that is gender equal (both in numbers and pay). There is no special process or department; it\u2019s just how we operate. Our staff come from the far corners of the world including Sweden, the UK, the US, Chile, Portugal, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, France and, of course, Australia. One of our interns this year was an asylum seeker from Iraq.<\/p>\n

    3. I’m also proud of our donations to those in need. This month is my turn to choose and, at first, I was stumped. I am relatively lucky \u2013 I haven’t had a close relative succumb to illness (touch wood), I’ve always had a roof over my head, received an education and have been offered opportunities to lead me to where I am today.<\/p>\n

    Not everyone is like me. In fact, the majority of the world is not like me. The potential greatness that is locked away in the minds of people who haven’t been given opportunities is mindboggling. The cure for cancer could be in mind of a child on the other side of world just waiting to be unleashed with the right opportunity.<\/p>\n

    With this in mind, I came across One Girl. A bit of research<\/a> showed that 70% of my donation goes directly to their girl-focussed education programs in Sierra Leone and Uganda\u00a0and a $300 donation will pay for a year’s education. If this can help someone get an education that might ‘open doors’ for them, then who knows? One day they might create a change in their village, their town, their country or their world to make lives better. I hope so.<\/p>\n
