Shop at your local co-op (if you have one)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7787 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/edgeenvironment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Manly-Food-Cooperative.jpg\" alt=\"Manly Food Cooperative\" width=\"210\" height=\"189\" \/><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Edge Environment recently became a member at Manly Food Co-operative for our\u00a0May &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/edgeenvironment.com\/donating-save-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Make More Good<\/a>&#8216; donation, chosen by Principal Consultant Jacqui Bonnitcha. It&#8217;s\u00a0a grocery and whole foods store with a difference \u2013 it&#8217;s owned and operated\u00a0by members, who are encouraged to volunteer their time and expertise to the running of the store, as well as purchasing the store&#8217;s local, organic food, of course!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/manlyfoodcoop.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manly Food Co-operative<\/a>\u00a0received our &#8216;Make More Good&#8217; donation in the form of a company co-op membership, which means Edge\u00a0will now be making a habit of\u00a0shopping at the store, while also contributing to its operations.<\/p>\n<p>I was once on the co-op&#8217;s Board\u00a0and can vouch\u00a0that the organisation is kept running by a devoted group of volunteers trying hard to provide a sustainable alternative to regular grocery stores. Manly Food Co-operative was established more than two decades ago in 1996 and has stayed open, since then, almost entirely on volunteer time.<\/p>\n<p>After travel, our food consumption is usually the next biggest source of environmental impact (at an individual level). The co-op (and other organic local markets) provides low\/no packaging, organic\/no pesticides and local\/ethically sourced groceries. It&#8217;s also a place where you&#8217;ll find other like-minded people in the community who care about their health and the health of the planet.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re inspired by the ABC&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/tv\/programs\/war-on-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">War on Waste<\/a> series, a co-op or buying group like this is a good place to start reducing your impact.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Edge Environment recently became a member at Manly Food Co-operative for our\u00a0May &#8216;Make More Good&#8216; donation, chosen by Principal Consultant Jacqui Bonnitcha.
